‘Preliminary Week’ in our new school is now over and it’s time to get down to business. This week I’ve jumped straight in the deep end and have been teaching whole class lessons on a daily basis. I have delivered daily numeracy lessons, as well as PE and some cross-curricular science/art. I’ve also been taking on general transition periods, such as registration or reading to the whole class (we’re reading The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton, which they love!). These short sessions of whole class management have helped me to practice those all-important behaviour strategies and techniques.

If truth be told, this has been my toughest week yet – I’ve been up every day at 6.15am, setting off for school at 7am (it’s a 45-minute journey) and continuing to plan lessons after school until around 9 or 10pm each evening! The sheer hours I’m putting in this week has left…
