School Direct Trainee Blog

Having completed my first block practice and got to the other side, I now know I can teach – it’s just a matter of getting better at it (a process which will probably be ongoing for the next five years or so…).  It has been a relief to shift from being observer to practitioner, and get past those first nerves of standing in front of a class.

I’ve had the chance to plan a couple of one-off lessons, about Remembrance Day and the World Cup, which I’ve really enjoyed.  I’m looking forward to getting more involved in planning as the training progresses.  Even when you have a lesson plan provided, there’s still a creative process of thinking through how it will work in practice, anticipating what might be tricky or engaging.  When a lesson is going well, it is lovely to be able to respond to the class and make…
